If the music is you, it won't grow away from you. If it does grow to the right as your life bends to the left the gap can become too large to cross. The only way to keep it is to hold it in your chest, be with it and be there for it like family.

"i'm fakin my own death just to get some rest" is a collection of meditative work songs; melodies you could whistle while unloading heavy boxes at a dock. The kind of album I would have listened to so I wouldn't think about how gross it is washing dishes and how I must smell to the pretty hostess who keeps being nice to me. Andrew sets the pace on long winding catchy choruses that bounce around your cranium like campfire horror stories. The more you hear them the more you catch how much inner sadness exists in them, how tired he is from working so hard, how vividly wounded his lament can be whilst being a sing-a-long ("I'm not feeling like a writer, I'm not feeling like enough."---"Fuzzy Orange Headband"). Jesse The Tree writes in a very literary way ("pain ripples like I'm skipping a stone"---"Stardawgs") painting New England landscapes I could see as impressionist paintings ,rendered moments, captured and stored on my grandparents walls (""Mission in the rain, weeping willow, north bound train, drawing smiley faces in the window." ---"Whoa, Whoa, Whoa").

While the two dig into individual strengths their punchlines connect them as a reliable way to tell one another a joke, keep the energy thriving while the instrumentation from the sample might be so pristine it leaves the audience emotional.

You need to know what "i'm fakin my own death just to get some rest" isn't. It isn't a multi-genre experimentation that betrays how little the author cares about any specific kind of music. This is hip hop. The flex might be a good nap or a quality throwback jersey, but this is hip hop. It isn't obtuse or flippant. This is a blue-collar album about surviving work, enjoying sunshine, and peeing into the snow. This isn't a cute album. It is thirteen songs for people with dirt under their fingernails and back issues who yearn to have more cute things. It is neither inspirational nor aspirational. Better described as physically present, warm, and grounded.

Whether you throw a party to "i'm fakin my own death just to get some rest" or finish your shift to it the relationship will stand like a tired tree. Instead of searching for a way both of them could hold the music to their chest, Andrew and Jesse The Tree shared a chest for forty four minutes, doubling the heartbeat until the bass slapped.
